Fields of Practice

It is the policy of The Maisels Group to introduce, as far as reasonably possible, its junior members to the many different disciplines that are practiced at the Bar. In accordance with the traditions of the Bar and the interaction between senior and junior members, there is a focused and energetic transfer of skills from the senior practitioners to the junior practitioners.

The members of The Maisels Group practise predominantly in the area of civil law. Practises of the members traverse the whole field of commercial law, but there are areas of particular specialisation.

These include customs and excise and the following:

  • International trade law;
  • Construction law;
  • The law relating to town and regional planning, property development and environmental law, expropriation and valuation law;
  • Insolvency law;
  • Banking law;
  • Mineral law;
  • Intellectual property law;
  • Taxation; and
  • Insurance and administrative law.

Many of the members have also been admitted to appear in other jurisdictions, often sit as arbitrators and from time to time act as judges of the High Court. The building in which The Maisels Group is situated also houses the Arbitration Foundation of South Africa (AFSA) and is accordingly ideally located for alternative dispute resolution proceedings.

For further information regarding the individual members’ and their fields of practice, see our member pages here.
